Volo Auto Museum , Volo, IL

I know what you are thinking, "wow, ...a museum of cars,... great...fun,.. yippee" and yes, we thought this was going to be a boring part of the trip considering we are "Go and Do" people who prefer amusement park rides operated by a guy with 5 teeth (2 of those on a necklace) over a museum, but we ended up loving everything!

They have EVERY movie car EVER and so much more!

Rating:

Full six-pack after mowing the lawn, frosty and satisfying! This is the best collection of Hollywood cars since Jay Leno's garage.

This is a a great place for all ages (even if you aren't a car nut) and they have cars, bikes, kids rides, an enormous antique mall, and thousands of vehicles that range from classic cars, to tanks, to airplanes, and more movie vehicles and memorabilia than we have seen anywhere. Most of the vehicles are for sale. Because of this, the displays and the vehicles are always changing, approximately 1200 vehicles per year.

When you arrive, the looks of the buildings and site are deceiving. We recommend skipping the antique malls (4 of them) and saving them for the end of the day. Head right to the museum entrance. The ticket price was $15 and completely worth it.

This is a great place to spend the day and because of its size, plan to spend the day!

YES!, that is the speeder from Star Wars, and yes, Randy Randerson, peed a little bit and screamed like a 10 year old girl when he rounded the corner and saw it!

Some quick advice if you have little ones in tow, bring some quarters for the little kid rides. They are like the horses you would see in front of stores, so many of them, and they vary from antiques to modern!

That is a sign saying "Do Not Sit Here" which Randy Randerson promptly moved as he climbed on in. That is a movie used DeLorean with all of the set trimmings - Randy was losing his mind!

They have the cars from movies and TV including Ghostbusters, Mad Max, the Flintstones, Back to the Future, Fast and the Furious, Indiana Jones, Batman, Ghost Rider, The Mask,

Cat in the Hat, James Bond, True Lies, Speed Racer, Terminator, Alien, Transformers, Scooby Doo, Blues Brothers, Beverly Hillbillies, Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider, the Munsters, and even Steven King's Christine signed by the author! (and so much more).

You should budget at least 3-4 hours to enjoy the museum and at least a couple more for the antique mall to get it all in and even that might not be enough.

Barbra Jean Jo Barbara is not one to always follow the rules... a rebel with a mustache.
