The world famous- Wall Drug!

That sweet, sweet FREE water.

Rating:

3 beers from the cooler out of a six-pack. Great marketing, but still just a tourist stop.

Family friendly and a great stop to stretch your legs.

As we crossed the planes of South Dakota we encountered very little other than grazing lands and Wall Drug signs every 10 miles for about 400 miles. How could we not stop with their promise of free water and an 80 foot tall dinosaur.

It is one of the US's most well-known and oldest tourist attractions and they got their start with something many wouldn’t even turn their heads at today … the promise of free ice water. Wall Drug” drew weary travelers into the small-town drug store to enjoy a refreshing break. Today, more than 2 million visitors a year stop at the roadside attraction to see how good 5 cent coffee and ice water can be – and yes, it tastes like 5 cent coffee and free water.

It is a western style mall filled with eclectic stores that sell the typical tourist trap stuff but also sell fossils, metalwork, and there are some really cool shops with out-of-the-ordinary wares. You could play hillbilly bingo here and check off some of the craziest things: Ride a giant jackalope - check, sit on a bucking bronco - check, see and 80 foot tall dinosaur - check! They even have a giant animatronic dinosaur head straight out of Jurassic Park. We are always drawn to the strange and unusual and this place is a whole world of weird.

Tip:

This isn't a quick pit stop. This place is huge and the parking is a distance from the main mall. Plan on an hour or two.
