Tailgating with the KC Chiefs

Tailgating at Arrowhead Stadium with the BEST fans in the NFL - it should be a bucket list item on everyone's list. The fact that the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t your team or even if you don't like football has nothing to do with it. Just a great party with friends and rivals eating, drinking, and having fun together.

Rating:

5 beers from the RV fridge! The only reason it isn't a six-pack is that sometimes the Chiefs loose.

For the love of God, get there EARLY and pre-pay for parking!

Question: “Wow, that's quite a line to get in - what time did you get here?”
Answer: "3pm Tuesday" :-)

Over time, Arrowhead Stadium and Chiefs fans have became world-renowned for the tailgating experience, so EVERYONE here tailgates!

Parking gates open only five hours prior to kickoff and people start lining up at the gates a couple of hours before that. To speed things up, most (the smart ones) buy a prepaid parking pass. Open parking does not apply to full size RVs as they will have to park in the appropriate bus/RV parking area. You will need to purchase the oversize parking pass and have only one gate to enter the stadium parking area, so look online before you go to see which gate so you don't wait in the wrong line. Print out your pass so that you can hand it to the gate guy and go on in.

This site explains it all: http://www.chiefs.com/parking/index.html

Eat, drink,...don't forget to go inside for the game!

We’ve cooked everything from ribs to lobster to salmon to brisket - and that was just breakfast.” - RV tailgating fan

Tailgating is more than just an excuse to eat, drink and cheer for your team. It is a time to spend with friends and family, and family friends, and new friends that are fans, and strangers looking for free food and beer,.. no, I guess that is what tailgating is.

Once inside, there are plenty of stadium parking helpers to direct your RV to the RV lot. Once there you can set up and get to know your neighbors.

The TV reception in the lot is fantastic! We used both the off-air antenna (got 30+ channels) as well as the satellite dish and got HD on all the TV's. With all of the food, friends, people, and entertainment, it is tempting to just stay and play. Some do, but those with tickets for seats, We recommend heading to the gates 45 min to an hour before kickoff. The security is slow, but the colorful fans make the time fly.

When the game is over, you will have about 2 hours to snack, pack, and go. Security will be patrolling in golf carts to remind everyone that it is last call.

If you are planning on staying overnight in the KC area, we suggest if you have the family with you that you look into the RV park at "Worlds of Fun" amusement park - Worlds Of Fun Village. It is about 15 minutes from the Stadium and the RV park has a private entrance to Worlds of Fun. We will cover more of this in a different post.

The Oak Grove KOA is also close and is a very quiet location.

Enjoy the game!
