Sioux Falls
Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD. This place had us grinnin' like a possum eatin' a sweet tater.
Rating:
4 beers out of a six-pack at a friends house. A delightful place just off of the highway.
Pack a lunch and enjoy the peace.
Heading from St. Louis to Mount Rushmore, we took a 10 minute detour off the highway to Falls Park to see the falls and take a driving break. Normally we wouldn't post about our stops driving breaks along the way, but this was more of a destination stop. This place is beautiful, very family-friendly, and an unusual find. We happened to go on a day when they had a farmer's market so we took a walk through the market then on over to the falls. The pink stone really stands out and the falls divide the town.
We followed the crowd for a little walk through the park to the falls. The falls were actually pretty impressive. You can climb on rocks to get closer or stay on the path and enjoy the view from the bridge that spans the falls. It is a relaxing and pretty view.
After a time watching the falls and taking pictures, we returned to the market where there were fresh fruits and vegetables, and local homemade crafts for sale. There were a couple booths selling things like sandwiches and donuts but we opted for a very good brick oven pizza and had an unscheduled lunch. A great place to stretch our legs and take in the local fare.
TIP:
Take a 10 minute detour off the highway to see this pretty spot, you won't be disappointed.
