Horse back riding, Custer SD

Highlight of the trip!

Rating:

Full six pack with clean glasses! What a wonderful find that we are proud to share with friends.

We are no stranger to the country life, after all we live so far in the boonies that it isn't the end of the earth, but you can see it from our front porch. Barbra Jean Jo Barbara and Randy Randerson were as happy as ticks on a fat dog to ride the trails in South Dakota.

This had already been a full day (Deadwood, Devils Tower, Crazy Horse, and now horse back riding) and we were hoping to take the sunset in at the end of the trail. Randy Randerson's first job as a kid was on a horse ranch, so he knows a thing or two about how a ranch should be run and he was very impressed by the Rockin R Rides Inc horse ranch and their "plump" horses. These animals are taken care of with love and attention.

They have rides available for every experience level and ask the riders questions to gauge their experience so they can match them with the right horse. Randy Randerson's experience landed him with the one ornery horse in the bunch - they got along perfectly. Before we set out, we were all lined up with Barbra Jean Jo Barbara just in front of Randy Randerson. At no prompting (Randy swears this to this day) his horse bit Barbra Jean Jo Barbara's horse on the butt. Both Randy Randerson and the horse laughed and laughed and then they were quickly reordered in line and told to behave.

We rode in single file, guided and walking the horses, allowing us to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills. We could see the Crazy Horse Memorial from the stable, then we ventured out into the ponderosa pines and rock outcroppings of the mica mining area of the Buckhorn Range Black Hills National Forest. A wonderful ride in a beautiful valley.

If you are an experienced rider or you have always just wanted to try it, we recommend it. Put the phone away and breath in that crisp fresh air. Be a cowboy for a little while. Slow down and watch a sunset.

Wonderful.

Tip:

Do this ride at the end of the day. The trail is dusty and you will leave the ranch smelling like horse. Wear Jeans and shoes you could walk in a field in.
