Camp Gulf, Destin Fl

Park on the beach, on purpose this time.

Rating:

3 beers from the RV fridge out of a six-pack. The only spaces that are special at this park are the first row beach access.

Our go-to beach vacation spot has always been Destin, Florida so it should be no surprise our first RV beach destination was Destin. We have stayed at the San Destin Resort and the beach for the resort is adjacent to the Camp Gulf RV Resort beach, so the destination was a "no-brainer".

We wanted a spot on the beach. The first row is pretty much always booked so we settled for the second row which was still on the beach and was a few dollars cheaper, or so it seemed in the brochure. The first row is really the only row that has the beach. Because you don't walk between the rigs to get to the beach, you are walking the length of the park anyway to get to the public beach access. The only thing that the second or third row gets you is a sandy floor in your rig.

The staff at Camp Gulf check you in at the front office and then dispatch spotters to your space to help guide you in.

We met the neighbors before we even got out of the rig. There was a group of retired people sitting under a tent canopy in front of one of the RVs (who had started early or were ending late with the refreshing adult beverages) who all decided to help as spotters to guide us in. This was good because the spaces are very tight. They were a fun group and very helpful - they noticed that our hands didn't have a rum runners in them , so they immediately sprang to action to correct that issue.

If we stay at Camp Gulf again, we think we will go for the third row back or farther from the beach because it is elevated providing a better view and would get us out of the sand. While the convenience of walking a minute to the water was nice, the constant sand all over everything was a nuisance and the premium you pay for this was not worth it.

Our neighbors on both sides were some super friendly seniors who partied into the late night like teenagers. Fun people and rival college football fans so we had plenty to talk about.

Overall the stay was good with some lessons learned to be better prepared next time. The beach was perfect and the property has a nice coin-operated laundromat, a pool, shower rooms, as well as a small store with necessities (even RV replacement parts).

A short walk down the beach gets you to some nice seaside restaurants and bars.

Let us know what you thought of Camp Gulf or if you had some tips to make our next trip better.

Tips:
