Oz Museum, Wamego, KS

We went for the realism by driving to the Oz museum in a 40 ft long high profile motorhome on a day with 30+ mph crosswinds - as close to being inside a tornado as it gets!

It is off the beaten path and everything is fairly colorless until you get to the museum (snicker). Honestly, Randy Randerson wasn't looking forward to this part of the trip. He is after all, "Randy Randerson - manly man", and a trip to a museum about a movie filmed in 1939 wasn't revving his engine, but Barbra Jean Jo Barbara insisted and Randy had to say that it was surprisingly good. :-)

Rating:

We give this place 4 cold beers out of a six-pack! This is a really cool collection of movie memorabilia from a movie that changed the way movies were made forever. Great staff, no-pressure pace, and something for everyone.

There are statues of the characters wearing the costumes and so many cool movie props and backstage information about the stars, the sets, the camera equipment, and so much more. They have the vintage books that inspired the movie, Oz toys, movie used props and information on all of the other Oz movies (animated films, Wicked, The Wiz, and others), and displays you could touch like the star's handprints in concrete from outside the theater in Hollywood. The displays are interactive and complete.

This was a self-guided tour and we walked through it twice to be sure we saw everything.

You are free to take as much time as you like so you can read the informational plaques and look at every item carefully enjoying every tidbit. It is a very personal experience between you and the movie and everyone there seemed to gravitate to a different thing. This is a very complete museum dedicated to all things Oz.

They also have a huge selection of The Wizard of Oz memorabilia and souvenirs in their gift shop. Everything from jewelry, collectibles, cups, t-shirts and clothing, books, toys and other souvenirs. https://ozmuseum.com/

Definitely a "Must See" if you are in Kansas.

RV Tip:

Parking is hard to find - There is no place to park on the street or anywhere near the museum. We ended up driving about two blocks away and parked in a lot by a small park.
